He was born February 5, 1929 in Waukegan, Illinois, the son of Ole and Florence (Klarkowski) Hoem. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, and on June 20, 1953, he married Darlene Bauer in Antioch, Illinois. Don worked for many years as an Accountant for the Sloan Valve Company in Franklin Park, Illinois. Don was active in his Church parish through the Knights of Columbus, parish councils, and as a CCD teacher and superintendent for many years. Professional and community activities include the National Association of Accountants, American Legion, and Korean War Veterans. He will be remembered for his dedication and willingness to serve. Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Elroy; four children, Cindy (Randy) Mueller of Elroy, Don (Sue Anne) Hoem of Wheaton, Illinois, Nancy (Rich) Garza of Carol Stream, Illinois, and Mary (Randy) Hoem of Appleton; grandchildren, Jim, Tom, Christopher, Kevin, Adam, Mitchell, Jean and Tracy; a brother, Bob of Grayslake, Illinois; sister-in-laws, Betty Quilty also of Grayslake and Betty Hoem of Waukegan; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Don was preceded in death by his Parents; a brother, Jack; sister-in-law, Martha Hoem and brothers-in-law, Donald Bauer and Patrick Quilty. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Elroy, Wisconsin, with Reverend Richard Dickman officiating. Friends may call at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. A private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance are suggested. |
