Dorothy L. Jacobson, age 93 years, of Madison and formerly of the Hillsboro area, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born on November 29, 1915 to Martin M. and Tena (Novy) Rott at Yuba, Wisconsin. She attended the Yuba grade school and graduated from the Hillsboro High School in 1934. Dorothy was united in marriage to Lief Jacobson in 1941; he preceded her in death following an accident in 1947. She will be remembered by her family, relatives, and many friends as a strong, independent woman who, despite difficult financial circumstances after the tragic death of her husband, persevered to support herself and her two young sons. That strength and independence stayed with her for her entire life. She resided in Madison for the last 35 years and during that time developed many close friends, both old and young. For many of those years she was an active member of the Theater Bus Group and greatly enjoyed those excursions with her theater companions. She became very interested in the genealogy of the Rott and Novy families and assisted many family members in tracing their history and recording it to share with relatives around the country. Survivors include her two sons, Roger (Ellen) Jacobson of Reno, Nevada and Rodney (Cindy Watson) Jacobson of Nokomis, Florida and three grandchildren, Sharon Jacobson, Steve Jacobson, and Amanda Watson. She remained very close to her two sisters, Mary Hansbery of Reedsburg, and Josephine Hansberry of Hillsboro, and maintained a sincere concern for their children and grandchildren. She will be remembered by her two sons as a wonderful, caring mother who worked very hard to raise them to be responsible, successful adults. She instilled in them her values of hard work, honesty, and responsibility that served her so well for all of her 93+ years. She will be remembered and missed by all of the people whose lives she touched during her time with us on this Earth. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A remembrance service will be held at 12:30 p.m. For online information go to www.pichafuneralhomes.com |
