Frederick J. Sterba, age 92 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Heritage Manor in Elroy, Wisconsin.

He was born on September 12, 1916 to Joseph and Anna (Shriner) Sterba in Vernon County, Wisconsin.  He grew to adulthood in the rural Hillsboro area and graduated from the Hillsboro High School.  On May 3, 1938 Fred was united in marriage to Josephine M. Stanek in Hillsboro.  They farmed for many years between Hillsboro and Elroy.  She preceded him in death on March 14, 1989.  He later moved into Hillsboro. 

Survivors include a daughter, Mary (LaVere) Leverenz of Blue Grass, Iowa; a son, Donald Sterba of Culver City, California; two grandchildren, Mark Leverenz and LeAnne Leverenz; a great-grandson, Luke Leverenz; and a brother, Richard (Betty) Sterba of Hillsboro.  In addition to his wife, Josephine, he was preceded in death by his Parents, a sister, Viola Fisher; and a brother, Melvin Sterba.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Rev. Alan Tripp officiating.  Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro.  Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
