James G. Moore, age 86 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston.
He was born in LaCrosse on July 9, 1923 to Thomas and Ella (Woll) Moore. For the first 28 years of his life, he resided on the family farm located 1 ¾ miles south of Mindoro, WI. He attended the Mindoro Schools and graduated with the class of 1941. Jim attended the LaCrosse State Teachers College in 1941-42. Due to World War II, he was needed to operate the family farm and remained in that capacity until January 29, 1951 when he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse. It was in August of 1951 that he transferred to the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. There he enrolled in the Business Education curriculum, majoring in business education and minors in English and Spanish. Jim was a member of the college chorale and participated in various cultural activities while at Whitewater, including soloist in a College Folk Opera. He was a member of and active participant in a social fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa, serving as its secretary.
Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater on June 12, 1954; he was awarded a bachelor of education degree in business education. He held teaching positions in various high schools for eleven years, namely Kendall, Onalaska and Seneca. Jim spent several summers working on advanced degrees at the University of Colorado in Boulder and the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He was granted a Master of Science degree in Accounting at the University in Madison in August of 1965. At this time, he accepted a position as head accounting instructor at the Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, the main campus in the district. He remained in the district for 21 years, retiring from teaching on May 20, 1986. In 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1972, Jim attended the summer educational sessions at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and was awarded a designated degree in Accounting and Business Machines.
On August 22, 1959, James was united in marriage to Magla Waarvik at the Fountain Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Magla of Elroy, 2 sisters in laws, Leona Moore of Mindoro and Carol Moore of Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, a sister, Alta Moore and 4 brothers, Rolland, Willis, Thomas and Robert.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Wesley Dunbar officiating. Burial will follow in the Fountain Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elroy. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International or any other charity. In Picha Funeral Home, Elroy is assisting the family.
