John Jefferies

John W. Jefferies, age 75 years, of Hillsboro, went to join his wife in heaven as he passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Heritage Manor in Elroy, Wisconsin, where he has lived the past four months, fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on December 28, 1934 to Greg and Hazel (Markee) Jefferies at Hillsboro.  John grew to adulthood on the family farm 4 ½ miles east of Hillsboro.  He attended Hillsboro High School and had the record running Cross Country, which he thoroughly loved to talk about.  John was united in marriage to Beulah Marie Smith on April 23, 1955 at the Hillsboro Wesleyan Church.  Together they farmed and raised eight children near Hillsboro.  Beulah preceded him in death on November 15, 1989.

Survivors include his children, Fred of Phoenix, Arizona, Bonnie (Donald) Matteson of Ontario, Linda (Bill) Leverenz of Elroy, Sandra (Ron) Lowrey of Hillsboro, Donald (Betty) Jefferies of Hillsboro, Rita (Wayne) Wright of Burlington, Jack Jefferies of Hillsboro and Jean Jefferies of Mauston; twenty-five Grandchildren; nine Great Grandchildren; a loving brother, Lyle Jefferies of Elroy; and sisters, Olga Lewis of Hillsboro, Gloria (Andrew) Olson of McFarland, Ruby Smoyczek of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and Virginia (Dick) McMillan of Mauston.  In addition to his wife, Beulah, he was preceded in death by his Parents, a brother, Berwyn Jefferies, sisters, Glenda Jefferies and Ina Field, grandson, James Perry, and two Great Grandchildren.
