Julia Schauer

Julia M. Schauer, age 92 years, of Elroy, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, Wisconsin.

She was born on April 12, 1916 to Alois and Mary (Drezka) Vlasak at Yuba, Wisconsin and attended school at Sunnyside School, Elroy and LaCrosse.  Julia was united in marriage to Gilbert Schauer on June 26, 1935 in Elroy.  They farmed near Elroy; he preceded her in death on October 19, 1988.  Julia also worked at Wisconsin Dairies in Union Center, Ray-O-Vac in Wonewoc, the Canning Factory in Hillsboro, and Pleasant Acres in New Lisbon.  She was a member of the Helpful Homemakers and Grace Lutheran Church in Elroy.

Survivors include a son, James (Valerie) Schauer of Elroy; five grandchildren, Melody Shaker, Misty (Pete) Herritz, Mae Lynn (Don) Bauer, Russell (Kathryn) Preuss and Mark (Kathy) Preuss; Great-Grandchildren; a son-in-law, Russell Preuss of Wonewoc; step grandson, Jesse Gibson; two brothers, Adolph (Esther) Vlasak of Elroy and Kenneth (Arlene) Vlasak of Blanchardville; two sisters-in-law, Jane Vlasak and Marcella Vlasak; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Gilbert, she was preceded in death by her Parents, a daughter, Mary Ann Preuss, a granddaughter, Catherine; three brothers, William, Frank, and Leo Vlasak; a sister, Helen Preuss Disrud; sister-in-law, Evelyn Vlasak and two brothers-in-law, Ervin Preuss and Sanford Disrud.
