Lula
M. Von Haden, age 89 years, of Elroy, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the
St. Josephs Memorial Hospital in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.
She was born on September 16, 1919 to August
and Mabel (Worden) Vieth at Argyle, Minnesota, the family later moved to Elroy
when Lula was 3 years old. Lula was united in marriage to Gilferd Von Haden on
August 20, 1938 in Elroy. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1987.
Lula was a very active person, in addition
to her help with farming; she also worked at the schools as a cook.
Volunteering and serving in clubs, many times as an officer, also played a major
role in her life. She was a founding member of the Hill & Dale Garden Club
established in 1970; Millards Prairie HCE (Homemakers Club) for 45 years; Elroy
Womans Club for 56 years; Elroy United Methodist Church for 75 years, many
Church committees, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and the Womens
group along with her sister, planning and serving funeral lunches the last 50
years; the Elroy Library Board; Girls Scout Leader; and as a 4-H Leader, along
with serving as a host family from a student from New Zealand.
Survivors include her children, Terry (Jan)
Von Haden of Madison, Jennifer Bancroft of Waunakee, and Carla Von Haden of
Elroy; five grandchildren, Michele Laux, Heidi Lezotte, Sara (Matt) Esslinger,
Tracy (Eric) Van Andel, and Kristin (Jeff) Heelan; seven great-grandchildren,
Brianna, Gabrielle, Logan, Isabelle, Stella, Luke, and Olivia; a sister, Beulah
Thompson of Elroy; and four sisters-in-law, Marge Vieth, Helen Vieth, Marie Von
Haden, and Ruth Jameson. In addition to her husband, Gilferd, she was preceded
in death by her Parents; son-in-law, George Bancroft; grandson, Scott; sister,
Olive Board; and five brothers, Earl, Gordon, Levi, Weston and Leland Vieth.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday,
June 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Elroy, with Rev.
Blake Overlien officiating. Burial will be in the Millards Prairie Cemetery,
rural Elroy. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Elroy on Thursday
from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The family
expresses gratitude to Lulas caregivers and the medical staff at St. Josephs
Community Health Services.
