Margaret “Peg” Steffen, age 94 years, of Elroy, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Services in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.

She was born on July 28, 1917 to Walter and Nell (Lauver) Hobert at Naperville, Illinois, where she also graduated from high school and college.  Peg was united in marriage to Dale S. Steffen on June 15, 1940 in Naperville.  They lived in the Chicago area and moved to Elroy in 1963.  He preceded her in death on October 28, 1989.

Peg was very active in the Elroy community, she taught piano lessons for years and also accompanied for many music programs and high school competitions.  She also served as a secretary at WWTC while her husband worked there.  Peg was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Elroy, serving as organist for 47 years; she was also a member of the Eastern Star.  More recently she was recognized by the EAAC in Elroy for her volunteer work.

Survivors include her loving family, daughter, Kathy (Ray) Januszewski of Grand Island, Florida; two sons, Rick (Shawn) Steffen of Elroy and Jim (Vana) Steffen of Madison; grandchildren, Jay (Amy) Steffen, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Steffen, and Veronica (Jeff) Hauke; and great grandchildren, Kaylee, Brooke, Madeleine, and Mackenzie.  In addition to her husband, Dale; she was preceded in death by her Parents and two brothers, Gordon and Walter.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Elroy, with Pastor Jean Schmidt officiating.  Burial will be in the Elroy City Cemetery in Elroy.  Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Elroy on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the Church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church 204 Royall Drive, Elroy, WI  53929
