
Raymond
H. Rego, age 87 years, of Elroy, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the
Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston, Wisconsin.
He was born on April 28, 1922 to Anthony and
Anna (Connors) Rego at Sauk County, Wisconsin. He grew to adulthood in the
Cazenovia area and began working for his Uncle at a cheese factory at Bunker
Hill. Ray served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Then he worked for the
U.S. Postal Service in Madison.
Raymond was united in marriage to Lucy
Beranek on June 25, 1952 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro. They
operated Regos Bar and Grill in Union Center and in 1965 moved to their farm at
Elroy. He also worked as a Carpenter for many years, worked for Kickapoo Oil
and later in maintenance at Fort McCoy until his retirement in 1987. He was a
member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Elroy, the Knights of Columbus,
VFW, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy of Elroy;
children, Dennis (Martha) Rego of Sterrett, Alabama, David (Linda) Rego of
Elroy, and Louise (Mark) Lee of Baraboo; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Rebekah,
Rachel, Joshua, Logan, Hannah, and Nicholas;
two
sisters-in-law, Gertrude Rego of Madison and Syvilla Rego of Reedsburg; and two
brothers-in-law, Herbert Lehman of Reedsburg and Melvin Beranek of Foley,
Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his
Parents; brothers, Charles and Patrick; and sisters, Janice and Betty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 29,
2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Elroy, with Father
Richard Dickman officiating. Burial with military rites will be held at St.
Theresas Catholic Cemetery at Union Center. Friends may call at the Picha
Funeral Home in Elroy on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday
from 10 to 11 a.m.
