Welcome

Vernon Richard Triebs, age 72 years, of Elroy, died unexpectedly on October 31, 2009. He met his maker doing what he loved - helping others and being in the great outdoors cutting wood.

He was born May, 3, 1937 to Herman and Elise Triebs in Elroy, Wisconsin. He attended Millards Prairie Grade School and Elroy High School. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Elroy. He grew up on the family farm in rural Elroy. He worked for the Wonewoc Township, at which time he purchased his first chain saw. He also worked for Farmer's Union Coop Feed Mill in Union Center, Union Center Milk Plant, Overgaard Construction, Elroy Creamery, and Ray-o-Vac Battery Plant for 38 years. In his retirement he worked part time at Brandau Hill Auction and Township of Wonewoc Recycling Center.

He loved to garden, work with wood - cutting and woodworking, deer hunt, play cards, and was an avid sports spectator at Royall High School events. He also loved the Cincinnati Reds. He was passionate about helping others and donated over 17 gallons of blood.

He was married to Mary Ellen Leatherberry on July 30, 1966. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2006. This union was blessed with three wonderful children that he cherished - Audrey, Allan, and David.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; daughter, Audrey Thurn of Plover, Wisconsin; two sons, Allan (Teresa) of Elroy, and David (Beth) of Selden, New York; four grandchildren Karissa Thurn, Shawn Triebs, and Stephanie and Tony Reisnour; one brother, Donald (Jeanice) Triebs, Elroy; one sister, Dorothy Kauffman, Spencer, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Marie Leatherberry; brother-in-law, Lester (Lynn) Leatherberry; sister-in-law Jan Friske (John Stevenson) and many, many friends.  Proceeding him in death were his Parents; brother, Norman Triebs; sister, Lorna Webster; and father-in-law Ervin Leatherberry.
