Charles Butcher Obituary

Charles E. Butcher, age 92 years, of Valley, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at his home, surrounded with family.

He was born on February 7, 1932 to Frank and Marie (Haugh) Butcher in Hillsboro.  Chuck grew up in the Valley area and graduated from the Hillsboro High School in 1950.

Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, stationed in Iceland, Malta and Newfoundland.

Charles was united in marriage to Loretta Breidung on November 12, 1955 in Valley. 

He worked for Bell Telephone Company in Madison for 29 years.  They lived for many years in Cottage Grove and after retiring in 1993 they moved back to the Valley area.

He was a member of the Burr Wesleyan Church and Hillsboro American Legion Post.  Chuck loved to go hunting, fishing and working in his garden.  He provided blood at many blood drives over the years and Loretta and Chuck helped out serving many people in the area, he often provided transportation to many appointments.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Loretta Butcher; children, Mark (Margo) Butcher, Craig (Vicki) Butcher and Cindy (Tom) Williams; grandchildren, Josh (Shannon) Butcher, Matt (Leslie) Butcher, Jeni (Rodney) Bowman, Jared (Amy) Butcher, Steve (Claire) Butcher, Amy (Josh) Higgins, Kimberly (Mike) Norris, Travis (Brenna) Williams, Tommy Williams and Mike (Samantha) Williams; twenty-seven Great Grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Butcher; brother-in-law, Bill Stenerson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; siblings, Lillian (Fred) Subera, Marguerite (Elgin) Herbeck and Robert Butcher and sister-in-law, Marlene Stenerson.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Burr Wesleyan Church, rural Hillsboro, with Rev. Jason Kirkpatrick and Rev. Alan Tripp officiating.  Burial with military rites will be in the Forest – Burr Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be on Friday, March 8th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro and at the Church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
