Dennis Joseph Bender

Dennis Joseph “Joe” Bender, age 72 years, of Elroy, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at home, with his family.

He was born on September 15, 1951 to Bernard and Alice (Kozlowski) Bender in Mauston and graduated from the Royall High School.  He also served in the U.S. National Guard for 8 years.

Dennis was united in marriage to Kristy Morris on June 7, 1980 in Elroy. 

They lived in Elroy where he was an over the road semi-truck driver for several years and then worked for 25 years at Walkers Stainless Steel in Elroy as a grinder/polisher.  He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and was an outdoorsman, who like to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife, Kristy Bender; children, Coreena (Jeffrey) Spors and Justin (Jennifer) Bender; grandchildren, Pierce, Mason, Elsie, Croix, Kolt and Edwin; siblings, Carol Bender, Janet Bender, Donna (Henry) Hansen, George Bender (Sherry Jones), Thomas (Charlene) Bender, Allen (Jill) Bender, Diane (Mark) Hibbard and Frances Bauman; sister-in-law, Kris Bender; brother-in-law, Mike Kinnard; special aunt, Marie Bender and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; sister, Sharon Kinnard; brother, James Bender and infant brother, Ronald Dean Bender.

A celebration of Joe’s Life will take place on Friday, March 22, 2024 with a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. and a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., both at the Picha Funeral Home in Elroy.  This will be followed by a gathering at the American Legion Hall in Elroy.

The Picha Funeral Home in Elroy is assisting with arrangements.
