LaVern Lietz Obituary

LaVern C. Lietz, age 82 years, of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, with his wife; niece, Dawn and Pastor Tim Anderson at his bedside when he entered eternal life.

He was born on February 16, 1941 to Clarence and Letha (Heding) Lietz in Tomah.  He was baptized into Christian faith and confirmed at age 13, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Indian Creek, rural Clifton and raised on the family farm near Clifton.  His mother passed away in 1957 from a massive brain tumor.

LaVern felt compelled to quit school to help his father on the farm and he became a milk hauler in the Clifton area at the age of 18, for his dad.  Later he became an owner and operator for hauling milk for Clifton Creamery, Warner Creek Cheese Factory in Hillsboro, AMPI and finally for Alto Dairy in Waupun.

At age 60 he sold his business to a fellow milk hauler and retired.  He thoroughly enjoyed the farms and farmers and really missed them.

On September 22, 1979 he married Jean Janechek at Zion Lutheran Church in La Valle, Wisconsin.  They first lived in Hillsboro and later purchasing their home in Wonewoc.

LaVern enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.  He loved mowing his yard and even mowing the lawns of others.

His father, Clarence married Carol Bartz.  LaVern loved Carol very much and talked to her daily on the telephone, until she passed away.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Lietz, a retired nurse; brother, Larry Lietz of Rio; sisters, Darlene Moser of Roberts, WI and Linda (Ronald) Mueller of Allenton, WI; step sisters, Christy Hansen of Austin, TX and Sally (Robert) Dahlke of West Salem.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Pam (Eric) Dahlager, Mary (Jeff) Breitenstein, Dawn (Ryan) Moser-Karstens, Todd (Denise) Lietz, Terry Lietz, Paul Mueller, Elliot (Lindsay) Hansen and Emily (Joe) Hansen; by a special great niece, Ryanna Karstens and other great nieces and great nephews, family and many friends.

LaVern was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, La Valle, and loved going to services and hearing Pastor Butler’s sermons.  He enjoyed the many visits from Pastor Butler when he was hospitalized.

LaVern loved the Lord with all his heart and looked forward to heaven where he is now.  The Lord took him to his heavenly home on Sunday.
