Lonnie Merritt Larmer, age 83, lost his 14th month battle with lung cancer on Jan 7th, 2024 with his daughter, Peggy and former wife, Val by his side. He received his wish to leave this life peacefully and without pain.
Lonnie was born March 13th 1940 in Wellington, KS to Clyde and Ruth Larmer, they preceded him in death. He enlisted into the Navy in March, 1957 and honorably discharged in Nov, 1960.
Lonnie was employed as an over the road semi driver for many years. He worked other various jobs thru out his life. His last job was with Phillips Total Care Pharmacy Mauston, WI as a delivery driver.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing and participated in leagues with his long-time friends from Mauston. He also enjoyed playing cribbage with his son in law, Patrick, which he took pride that he usually won 2 out of the 3 games. He loved to travel, it was nothing for him to hop in the car and take a road trip, that was the trucker blood in him, which remained with him until he could no longer drive. One of the several trips he took with Val and I quote “the best trip of his life” was a 2-week cruise to Alaska. They also enjoyed traveling to the British Isle, including Ireland, Mediterranean, Panama Canal and Canada He also traveled to several locations in the US, Kansas, Michigan, South Dakota, Yellowstone, and many others.
He cherished his trips to Iowa to see his granddaughter, Brie and her family, to California for granddaughter, Brittany’s graduation and the last one was to Georgia by his granddaughter, Sara.
He took vacations with his nephews, going camping, fishing, to Montana and traveling to Pikes Peak in Colorado. He was always so proud to be a very special part of their lives.
Lonnie is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Patrick) Kain of New London WI; grandchildren, Brie’Anna (Nic) Petitt, their children Kaylynn and Nolan of Boyden, Iowa, Colton Kain, his children Koko Carr, Malakai and Loralei Kain of Menasha, WI, Sara Larmer of Buford, GA, Brittany Larmer of Corona, CA and Leona Herbelin, the mother of his children, of Ontario, CA.
He is further survived by his former wife, Val Larmer; mother-in-law, Carol Carter; sisters in law, Kathy (Chris) Richer and Vicki (Gary) Merrell; nephews, Andrew (Courtney) Berndt their sons Carter, Landyn and Leo, Zachery (fiancé Suzanna) Berndt, Jason (Damara) Merrell and their daughters Daelynn and Kyran, all from WI. Very special friend whom he considered as a son, Pat (Patty) Arthon of Orlando, FL and several other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his 2 sons, Lonnie Jr (Butch) & Kevin Larmer; first granddaughter, Laura Marie Mares; sisters, Peggy Ruth Larmer (his daughters name’s sake) & Terry Bustos and brothers Jimmy and Roger Larmer.
A Celebration of Life for Lonnie will be on April 27, 2024 from 12-4 pm at Castle Rock Golf Course - W6285 Welch Prairie Rd, New Lisbon, WI 53950 (608) 847-4658
