Lyle D Burfeind

Lyle D. Burfeind, 87, of Wonewoc, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston.

Lyle was born on June 21, 1935 in Washington Township in Sauk County, Wisconsin; the son of Walter and Leveta (Erdmann) Burfeind. On November 30, 1963 he married Betty Laukant in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Lyle served in the US Army from 1958 to 1962. Upon discharge he returned to farming and they resided first in the LaValle area and then later in the Wonewoc area.

Lyle could be a very opinionated and stubborn man at times. He enjoyed watching news talk shows and old westerns on the television. Lyle also enjoyed a good game of cards, especially Sheepshead and Euchre. Lyle worked hard and took great pride in his dairy farm and equipment, making sure it was put away every night, right down to the lawn mower. He was a lifetime John Deere farmer. He always said, “If it wasn’t green and gold it was junk!”

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; his children Carolyn (Jim) Madsen of Wisconsin Dells, Ronald Burfeind of Wonewoc, Lois (Todd) Wolf of Waunakee, Connie (Paul Gubseli) Burfeind of West Salem, Vickie (Bruce) Sachtleben of Sun Prairie, Pam Burfeind of Wonewoc, and Jean Burfeind of Verona. He is further survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Lori, his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church; 119 S. East St., Wonewoc, WI. Pastor Peter Snyder officiating. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
