Michael (Mick) A. Schwichtenberg, 74, of La Crosse, passed away on March 22, 2024, at the Tomah VA Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held with memorial gathering on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro and military honors following. Mick was born October 20, 1949 in Hillsboro, Wisconsin, to Tom and Phyllis (Dyer) Schwichtenberg.
He proudly served in the United States Army as a crane operator from 1967-1970. After his service he attended UW-La Crosse and then worked at various construction, well-drilling jobs, and carpentry jobs.
He later attended Western Technical College and received an Associate's Degree in Human Resources Administration, graduating with highest honors. Thereafter, he sold appliances at Sears, worked customer service and warehouse inventory jobs, and later retired from construction work.
Mick enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his cats. He loved the outdoors, golfing, shooting pool, hunting for squirrels, white-tail deer, and morel mushrooms. Later in life, he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and watching game shows.
Mick is survived by his siblings Greg (Vicki) Schwichtenberg of Henderson, NV, Bonnie Lange of Hillsboro, Wl, Barb (Greg) Lueder of Tomah, Wl, Charlie (Jill) Schwichtenberg of Wonewoc, Wl, Andrew (Michelle) Schwichtenberg of Gray, TN, Mary (Todd) Ennis of La Farge, Wl, and Melanie (Bob) Bush of La Crosse, Wl, as well as several cousins, many treasured nieces and nephews, and his beloved cats, Big Kitty (head nurse) and Spooky.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tommy, brother-in-law, Ed Lange, and nephew, TJ Ennis.
The family would like to thank Mayo La Crosse and the Tomah VA 401B team (including #2 nurse, Beth) for their excellent and compassionate care.
